Booking choice: The Sky Lagoon ticket, from $116 per person. Check dates Tour details
Sky Lagoon runs on four seasons of opening hours, and the longest one began on 21 October 2026. Until 30 April 2027 the lagoon opens at 10:00 and closes at 21:00 every day, with five exceptions over Christmas and New Year.
The closing time on the door is not the time you leave the water. It is not the time the ritual stops either. That gap catches people who book late, so here are the official numbers, slot by slot.
The quick answer
From 21 October 2026 to 30 April 2027 Sky Lagoon is open 10:00 to 21:00 daily. The Skjól ritual and the in-water Gelmir Bar close at 20:00, and everyone is out of the lagoon by 20:30. Holiday hours: 24 December 9:00 to 18:00, 25 and 31 December 9:00 to 20:00, 26 December 11:00 to 22:00, 1 January 9:00 to 22:00. The last bookable slot is 18:30, which leaves 90 minutes for the ritual.
What are Sky Lagoon's opening hours in winter 2026-27?
10:00 to 21:00 every day from 21 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. The lagoon empties at 20:30 and the ritual stops at 20:00.
Those are the times on Sky Lagoon's opening hours page, which also lists the rule that trips people up: "guests are asked to leave the lagoon 30 min before closing time", and the Skjól ritual and Gelmir Bar close an hour earlier. Winter is the shortest season at both ends. Compared with autumn you lose an hour in the morning and an hour at night.
Time slots start every 30 minutes, from 10:00 to 18:30 in winter, and a ticket costs the same whichever one you pick. Once you are in, there is no clock on the lagoon itself. You stay until closing if you like.
| Season | Dates | Open | Ritual and Gelmir Bar close | Out of the water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Winter | 21 Oct to 30 Apr | 10:00 to 21:00 | 20:00 | 20:30 |
| Spring | 1 May to 20 Jun | 10:00 to 22:00 | 21:00 | 21:30 |
| Summer | 21 Jun to 20 Aug | 09:00 to 23:00 | 22:00 | 22:30 |
| Autumn | 21 Aug to 20 Oct | 09:00 to 22:00 | 21:00 | 21:30 |
What time does the Skjól ritual close at Sky Lagoon?
One hour before closing, so 20:00 on a normal winter day. Keimur Café and Smakk Bar take their last orders at 20:30.
Every pass includes one journey through the seven steps: lagoon, cold plunge, sauna, cold mist, body scrub, steam room and the crowberry elixir. You do them in order and cannot loop back. One guest put it simply: "once you move onto the next step you can't go back. Then take all the time you'd like in the lagoon." Our guide to the 7 ritual steps has the temperatures.
Give the ritual at least 45 minutes, plus 15 for the shower and changing room. That is why the late slots feel tight: on an 18:30 entry the clock is already running when you walk in.
| Entry slot | Until the ritual closes | Until you leave the water | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16:00 | 4 hours | 4 hours 30 min | Sunset in the water from mid November |
| 17:00 | 3 hours | 3 hours 30 min | Dark sky in midwinter, our pick |
| 18:00 | 2 hours | 2 hours 30 min | Fine if you start the ritual early |
| 18:30 | 1 hour 30 min | 2 hours | Last slot, no dawdling |
The ticket itself, sold by Sky Lagoon, with the full ritual and a towel. Any slot, same price.

24 December 9:00 to 18:00, 25 December 9:00 to 20:00, 26 December 11:00 to 22:00, 31 December 9:00 to 20:00 and 1 January 9:00 to 22:00.
The same rules apply on holidays: the ritual closes an hour before the door, and the lagoon empties 30 minutes before it. Christmas Eve is the short one. Icelanders celebrate on the evening of the 24th, and the lagoon is empty of guests by 17:30.
Two dates go the other way. On 26 December and 1 January the lagoon stays open until 22:00, the only winter days with an extra hour of darkness in the water. If you are hoping for the northern lights from the lagoon, those are the nights to book. Holiday slots go first, so book them as soon as your flights are fixed. If you rely on the shuttle, check its timetable for your date on re.is.
| Date | Open | Ritual closes | Out of the water |

In December and January a 10:00 slot puts you in the water for sunrise; a 16:00 or 17:00 slot gets dusk and darkness. Mid-afternoon sells out first.
Winter light in Reykjavík is short and low. On 21 December the sun rises at 11:22 and sets at 15:29, a day of 4 hours 7 minutes, according to timeanddate's Reykjavík tables. In mid November it is up from 09:56 to 16:27; by mid February from 09:23 to 18:01. In midwinter a 10:00 entry means you watch the sky turn pink over the sea from the water. A slot from 16:00 gets you the sunset and then the dark.
Skip the 14:00 and 15:00 fight. When we checked a November weekday on the booking engine three weeks out, both were already sold out. Guests report the same pattern: "go early as crowds built quickly in the afternoon", wrote one in September 2026, and another found it "pretty crowded at 5:30 pm". Mornings are the calm option. One October 2026 visitor on an early slot wrote that "it wasn't very crowded".

How much does Sky Lagoon cost in winter 2026-27?
Saman is ISK 14,990 on weekdays and ISK 16,990 at weekends; Sér is ISK 17,990 and ISK 19,990. Youth tickets (12 to 14) are half price.
Those are the booking-engine prices we saw on 21 October 2026 for November dates. The price is the same all day, and a weekend date adds ISK 2,000. On the packages page Sky Lagoon shows them in dollars from $129.88 (Saman) and $155.87 (Sér). The difference between the two passes is the changing room, explained in our Saman vs Sér guide.
On the same day the Viator ticket started at $116, below Sky Lagoon's own dollar price, and it is sold by Sky Lagoon itself. Prices move with the date, so compare both for your day. Getting there: the Reykjavík Excursions shuttle from BSÍ costs ISK 2,499 return, leaves hourly from 10:00 to 18:00 and comes back hourly from 12:30 to 20:30. The last bus leaves at the moment the lagoon empties, so plan to be out of the water by 20:00 if you need it. Every price is in our ticket price guide.
Your ticket plus the Reykjavík Excursions coach from BSÍ or a stop near your hotel, with a bus back every hour.

Hot water, cold air and real weather. Wind, sleet and the odd snow shower are part of it, and the rock walls give shelter.
The lagoon holds 38 to 40 °C all year. In winter the air above it can be near freezing, which makes the steam thicker and the walk between the lagoon and the ritual door brisk. The 5 °C cold plunge feels oddly reasonable after that. Rough weather is part of the show, and plenty of guests like it better that way. One April 2026 visitor described wind "like a hurricane and there was rain which at times was hail, but the sky lagoon has places to hide at behind rock walls while still in the warm water".
Getting out is the hard part. A November guest wrote that "it was almost painful to be out the water the wind off the sea was that cold". There are no robes or slippers, so walk quickly and keep a hair tie on. You can arrive in full winter gear; another guest noted they "have large locker room" space. Our what to bring list covers the rest.
