Getting to Sky Lagoon

Sky Lagoon sits on the tip of Kársnes in Kópavogur, a short ride from downtown Reykjavík. You can be in the water within half an hour of leaving your hotel.

Sky Lagoon is at Vesturvör 44-48 in Kópavogur, the town just south of Reykjavík. By road it is 13 minutes from the city centre, 9 minutes from BSÍ bus station and about 45 minutes from Keflavík airport, according to Sky Lagoon's getting-here page. It is not near the airport; that is the Blue Lagoon.

Here is every way to get there, with 2026 prices. Three of the Viator listings below are transfers only, with no lagoon ticket. We say so each time.

The quick answer

The easy way is the official Reykjavík Excursions shuttle from BSÍ, ISK 2,499 return, or the $149 Viator bundle with the ticket. A city bus costs ISK 690 a ride but takes two buses. A taxi takes about 15 minutes; parking at the lagoon is free. From Keflavík airport it is 40 to 45 minutes by car.

How far is Sky Lagoon from Reykjavík?

About 13 minutes by car from the city centre: 12 minutes from Hallgrímskirkja, 14 from Harpa and 9 from BSÍ bus station.

Kársnes is a peninsula on the far side of Fossvogur bay. The lagoon looks back at Reykjavík across the water, and out to sea towards Bessastaðir and Keilir. By car you go round the bay rather than across it, which is why a short distance still takes a quarter of an hour.

Walking is possible: about 6 km from Hlemmur, roughly an hour and a half. On a dry day it is a pleasant coastal walk. With a bag of wet swimwear after dark in January, it isn't.

Is there a shuttle bus to Sky Lagoon?

Yes. Reykjavík Excursions runs the official shuttle from BSÍ, ISK 2,499 return without the ticket, hourly from 10:00 to 18:00 in winter.

From 21 October to 20 June, buses leave BSÍ for the lagoon every hour from 10:00 to 18:00 and return from 12:30 to 20:30. From 21 June to 20 October the first bus leaves at 09:00 and returns run from 11:30. You pick any return bus; nobody holds you to a time. Details on Reykjavík Excursions.

BSÍ is at Vatnsmýrarvegur 10. If you book the ticket with the return bus on Viator, a smaller bus can collect you from a numbered stop near your hotel and bring you to BSÍ. Be at the stop 30 minutes before departure; collection can take up to half an hour. One thing guests get wrong is the return: "Bus transfers run every hour so plan accordingly."

Can you take a public bus to Sky Lagoon?

Yes. From Hlemmur take bus 4 to Hamraborg (15 minutes), then bus 35 or 36 to Bakkabraut (5 minutes) and walk. A single fare is ISK 690.

Strætó raised the adult single fare to ISK 690 from 6 January 2026, ISK 345 for youths. Pay with the Klappið app or a Klapp card. Hamraborg is Kópavogur's central bus hub; the 35 and 36 run out to Kársnes and stop a short walk from the lagoon. Check times on straeto.is before you rely on the last bus back.

It is the cheapest way there and the slowest. For a couple, a taxi split two ways is not much dearer and takes half the time.

How much is a taxi to Sky Lagoon?

Guests report fares of roughly £25 one way from central hotels, more at rush hour. It is a 10 to 15-minute ride; the Hreyfill app shows a price estimate before you book.

Icelandic taxis run on a meter, and the fare climbs with traffic. One guest wrote that leaving the city around 17:30 meant "more traffic so our cab fare was almost double the normal rate." Another guest who took the bus out and a taxi back paid "2 buses and £6 and taxis was £25".

For a fixed price, the private return transfer costs from $129 and covers both legs. It is transfer only: no lagoon ticket, so book that separately. One guest learned this the hard way: "Having transportation and having a ticket are two different things." If you want both in one booking, the ticket with a private car from $321 includes the pass.

Is there parking at Sky Lagoon?

Yes, free, with no time limit and EV chargers. From the centre, drive south round Fossvogur bay to the end of Kársnes.

Set your GPS to Vesturvör 44-48, 200 Kópavogur. The car park is next to the entrance. Driving makes sense if you are already renting a car for the Golden Circle or the South Coast; Sky Lagoon is an easy stop on the way back into town. One guest called it "Easy to access and to park."

How do you get from Keflavík airport to Sky Lagoon?

By car it takes about 40 to 45 minutes. By bus, take the Flybus to Hamraborg (ISK 3,999), then bus 35 or 36, a 5-minute taxi or a 30-minute walk.

The Flybus meets every arriving flight, 35 to 45 minutes after landing, and stops at Hamraborg in Kópavogur on its way to BSÍ, according to Icelandia. From Hamraborg it is a short hop to the lagoon. The all-public option is bus 55 to Hlemmur, bus 1 to Hamraborg and bus 35, which takes well over an hour.

Private cars, all of them transfer only, with no lagoon ticket:

Mind the clock. In winter the lagoon opens at 10:00, so a 6:00 landing means a long wait. One guest praised her driver for calling ahead to adjust the pickup "so we wouldn't have to sit so long after an all nighter". Luggage storage at the lagoon costs ISK 990.

How do you get to Sky Lagoon from the cruise port?

Pick the cruise port pickup option on the ticket with the return bus, or book the private car package, which also collects at the port.

The Reykjavík Excursions bundle includes a pickup from the cruise port if you select that option; the route runs via BSÍ. A September 2026 guest wrote: "Transport from cruise port to bus terminal to lagoon went smoothly. Be alert that return trip is only once every hour." Build in a margin before all-aboard: the last returns leave at 20:30, but you don't want the last one.

Guests on the private car package also report pickups at the cruise port.

Can you combine Sky Lagoon with a day tour?

Yes. Four day tours drop you at the lagoon with the ticket paid, and the South Coast tour adds it as an option.

The Golden Circle combos are the most popular: Golden Circle, Kerið and Sky Lagoon with 19 guests at most, or the version with Friðheimar farm. The ATV combo picks you up at 9:00 for 90 minutes on a quad above the city first. On the Silfra combo you drive yourself; there is no transport.

The South Coast tour is different: Sky Lagoon is an option you must choose at booking. Guests report being the only one in the bus going, with a taxi or second pickup arranged for the ride back. Compare prices in Sky Lagoon tickets and prices.
