What to bring to Sky Lagoon

Very little: a swimsuit, a hair tie and something warm for your head when the wind blows off the sea. The lagoon supplies the rest, and a few rules are worth knowing first.

A flat lay of a swimsuit, flip-flops, a hair tie, a waterproof phone pouch, a water bottle and a towel
Most of this is optional. The swimsuit isn't.

Sky Lagoon is easy to pack for. Towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hairdryers come with every pass, and the Sér pass adds body lotion and a waterproof bag. Lockers open with your wristband.

What follows is a short packing list, then the rules guests most often trip over: the shower, phones, glasses, robes and what to wear in the café. The rules come from the Sky Lagoon FAQ.

The quick answer

Bring a swimsuit (or rent one at reception), a hair tie and a beanie for windy days. Towels are free; robes and slippers are not offered, so bring your own if you want them. Phones are allowed in the lagoon but never in the changing rooms. You must shower without a swimsuit before going in. Big bags can be stored for ISK 990.

Are towels included at Sky Lagoon?

Yes, free for every guest on both passes. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hairdryers are provided too.

Don't pack a towel, it only gets wet in your bag. Both changing areas have hairdryers. Sér adds Sky Body Lotion, a private vanity and a reusable waterproof bag to keep. Day tours that include the lagoon also include the towel, but not the swimsuit: the Golden Circle combo lists the bathing suit as not included.

What's not offered: robes and slippers. The lagoon is reached straight from the changing rooms, so you don't cross any cold ground. You may bring your own robe if you like.

Can I rent a swimsuit at Sky Lagoon?

Yes. Swimsuits and trunks can be rented at reception, and swimwear is on sale. Swimsuits are required in the lagoon and through the whole ritual.

Forgetting it isn't a disaster, but it costs extra. One guest summed up the rule: "U need swim wear or they make u rent it." Any normal swimsuit works. Jewellery is better left in the locker: the scrub, salt and heat are hard on it.

Do you have to shower before entering Sky Lagoon?

Yes, without your swimsuit. It is the standard Icelandic pool rule and staff enforce it.

Undress, shower with soap, then put on your swimsuit and head out. Every pool in Iceland works this way, and nobody minds you following it. A guest put it simply: "You must shower without your bathing suit first before entering the lagoon. This preserves the water quality for all."

On the Saman pass you shower in a cubicle off the shared changing area; on Sér you have your own shower. If that is the part you are dreading, read Saman vs Sér before you book.

Can I bring my phone into Sky Lagoon?

Yes, into the lagoon. Phones and small cameras are allowed there, but never in the changing rooms or showers. Smart glasses are banned outright.

Sky Lagoon asks guests to keep photos discreet and respect other people's privacy. Bring a waterproof pouch or buy one at the in-water bar; Sér includes a bag. A guest's advice: "Take a waterproof phone case if you want to take photos while in the lagoon!" The phone-free sauna is just that.

Smart glasses are not allowed anywhere, because their cameras are hard to spot. Ordinary glasses are allowed, but Sky Lagoon warns the heat and humidity may damage them and suggests leaving them in the locker.

What should I wear to Sky Lagoon in winter?

Normal warm clothes to get there, then just the swimsuit. Add a beanie or headband for the water if it is windy.

The lagoon is 38 to 40°C, so your body stays warm. Your head and ears don't. A guest on a windy October day wrote: "bring a beanie to keep your head & ears warm." Sky Lagoon sells hats at reception and at Gelmir Bar if you forget. In bad weather you can move your booking up to 24 hours before by emailing [email protected].

Guests report the lockers are big enough for winter gear. In Keimur Café and Smakk Bar you need to be dressed: swimwear alone isn't allowed. More on winter visits in the winter hours post.

Can I bring luggage to Sky Lagoon?

Yes. Bags that don't fit in a locker can be stored at reception for ISK 990.

That makes the lagoon a good first or last stop of a trip. Plenty of guests come straight from the airport; one called it "a perfect pre-travel experience". Another tip from a guest who landed early: leave bags at BSÍ, where the shuttle starts. Getting from Keflavík with luggage, including the transfer-only private cars, is in how to get to Sky Lagoon.

Luggage storage at reception costs ISK 990.

Transfer only: a private car between Keflavík and the lagoon door, with 45 minutes' wait at the airport. Ticket sold separately.

Can I bring food and drink to Sky Lagoon?

Bring nothing; eat a light meal before you come. Drinking water is free at fountains, and food is sold at Keimur Café and Smakk Bar.

Sky Lagoon advises against arriving on an empty stomach. Keimur Café opens at 10:00 with soups, sandwiches and pastries; Smakk Bar serves tasting platters from 12:00. In the water, Gelmir Bar sells drinks, capped at three alcoholic drinks per adult. Anyone drunk is kept out of the lagoon.

Pay with your wristband, linked to your card at booking. If you pay cash anywhere on site, it must be krónur. Prices for everything are in Sky Lagoon tickets and prices.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need flip-flops at Sky Lagoon?
